The Barn Studio of Art
Home & Studio of Millville's Artist Laureate, Pat Witt

Barn Studio PhotoSince 1962, The Barn Studio of Art has been teaching area residents how to create various types of works in a relaxed, nurturing atmosphere set amidst an oasis of greenery in Millville, NJ.

While the studio has continued to grow over the years, with nearly four generations of students, Pat Witt, founder, said it was time for the facility to take an important step which will hopefully help to keep it open for many generations to come.

"It is in pursuit of this goal that we have founded The Barn Studio of Art, a New Jersey Nonprofit Corporation," Witt, who recently celebrated her 81st birthday, said. "To keep the creative and intellectual freedom of The Barn's programs and its environment alive takes constant funding. The Barn environment needs constant maintenance, restoration and tender loving care to keep it going."

Children Drawing

"The heart of the dream involving The Barn was to establish an art studio where people could study drawing and painting in a non-competitive environment," she said. "I began with three students and now, through the decades, thousands of students have studied at The Barn."

Students at The Barn Studio of Art range in age from 3 to 100 years old.

Witt added that scholarship requests are mounting, along with other costs, and said it is her hope that all donations received by the studio's nonprofit corporation will help it to continue for years to come.

"Art correlates to everything," she said. "It is necessary in our lives. If ever we needed something to create less stress in these times, it surely is art, and The Barn Studio of Art is the place."
